UK local elections 2013 – Results

The results are in and things went pretty much as expected.

The story is one of UKIP success, with Labour also picking up from the losses of the coalition partners the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats.

Top 3 winners (most gains):

1) Labour
2) UKIP
3) Independents

Top 3 losers (most losses):

1) Conservatives
2) Liberal Democrats
3) British National Party (BNP)

So the good news, the coalition made fairly big losses (though the Lib dems didn’t lose as much as many were expecting), the Greens made some gains overall and the BNP lost all their councillors.

The bad news is of course that UKIP made a lot of gains and look like cementing themselves at the 3rd party of UK politics, even if they are 4th they are truly in the mix now! Also the smaller left parties had absolutely no impact at all.

Clegg misses the bloody obvious

The UK’s Deputy PM and leader of the Liberal Democrat party Nick Clegg in relation to the polarisation of UK politics has said:

“(it is) an observable trend every time any country in the developed world goes through difficult times”

He is talking about the rise in popularity of UKIP which, in his opinion, is pulling the Conservatives further to the right, not that much notice of what ‘calamity’ Clegg says should be taken (not that anyone does ever since he abandoned the students over tuition fees and subsequently screwed us over with no real choice in the electoral reform referendum) as he also says that Ed Miliband (the leader of the Labour party) is moving Labour to the left (what a joke!).

So the UK is becoming politically polarised and only Clegg and his Lib Dems will stay in the middle ground. He has completely ignored WHY there are “difficult times” “every time”!

Thanks Nick! You hold the middle ground and we’ll continue to go up and down like a yo-yo as you clueless ponces are eternally bewildered at the constant failings of capitalism.

Daily Headline – 01/05/13

UK local elections 2nd May 2013 – Update

Tomorrow is the UK’s local election day, full listings of which local seats and councils are up for grabs can be found here.

The Conservatives will make losses which is not in doubt, the question is, how big will their losses be and who will be the beneficiaries?

Predictions are that Labour and UKIP will be the main two winners with the Greens potentially being the 3rd highest beneficiary.

TUSC (The Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition) will be fielding 120 candidates (TUSC was formed in 2010 so didn’t stand any candidates in the last June 2009 local elections).

The Green Party are standing over 900 candidates (in June 2009 they stood 781 candidates).

Generally Labour and the smaller parties (both left and right wing) are expecting to do well while the Lib Dems and Tories are hoping to minimise their losses.

UKIP “closest to a traditional Conservative agenda”

Conservative Lord Tebbit has stated that tories who are fed up with the coalition will turn to UKIP as they are the “closest to a traditional Conservative agenda”.

This comes as news that Tory MP Priti Patel’s father (Sushil Patel) would be standing for UKIP in Thursday’s UK local elections much to the media hungry joy of UKIP leader Nigel Farage and the disappointment of the tories.

Of course UKIP have taken this as a real media winner to say ‘Hey look! we’re not completely racist!’
Sure, they love the foreigners who will vote for them and vilify those who don’t as spongers of tax payers money and stealers of ‘British’ jobs (that’s white British of course!)

UKIP, like their Conservative friends work for the rich, the banks, big business. Think the tory led coalition is bad? It’ll seem like a picnic if UKIP ever got in power!

UKIP; undemocratic, disorganised and incoherent

The UK’s United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) has had a series of e-mails leaked to the press which has shown them to be undemocratic by not listening to their grassroots members and disorganised and incoherent when it comes to policy.

Just five days before the local elections e-mails involving top UKIP members reveals a real lack of policy in what the Guardian calls chaos.

Here’s some of the UKIP e-mails:

‘It would appear Ukip has more military and naval experts than we have soldiers. Most of them do not agree with each other. It is like herding cats.’

‘We are also attracting new members who bring main party ‘baggage’. Focus groups, quotas, even political correctness. We must be wary of listening to these siren voices. We did not get where we are today by following, but leading.’

‘We do not have the resources to write serious papers on major subjects, why reinvent the wheel? Why not buy policy ‘off the shelf’, where it is close to our own small government, low tax, libertarian position.’

‘Now here’s the rub. My experience thus far is that as soon as more than 2 people get in a room progress completely stops. Even where we have experts of our own they disagree.’

‘The charm and frustration of Ukip is we have doctors who fancy themselves as tax experts, painters and decorators who know all about strategic defence issues, and branch chairmen, retired dentists, who understand the most intricate political solutions for the nation.’

UKIP; A disaster waiting to happen!

UK local elections 2nd May 2013

The predictions are CON 29, LAB 38, LD 16, UKIP 11 and Others 6 according to Michael Thrasher and Colin Rallings. However the latest national polls are CON 32%, LAB 40%, LDEM 11%, UKIP 12% and Others 5% according to YouGov.

Currently the local political landscape is a Tory wet dream with them controlling 30 out of 34 councils, 1 being held by the Lib Dems and 3 with no overall control (NOC) at the last elections held on the 4th June 2009.

Whatever happens on Thursday right-wingers will be happy with UKIP on the rise and the Conservatives remaining (at a local level) in first place, albeit with a reduced amount of councils and councillors.

Do not forget that the left is standing in various forms, from Green Socialism to regular Socialism to Communism!
Don’t let the rich dictate the lives of the working class!

Conservative councillor resigns after racist remarks

Conservative (Tory) councillor John Cherry has resigned from the party after making ‘unacceptable’ remarks about ethnic minorities in London schools.

The now former Tory councillor basically called foreigners lazy, he said:

“There are certain nationalities where they are uncertain what this hard work is all about”

“It depends what type of Asian. If they’re Chinese, they’ll rise to the top. If they’re Indian, they’ll rise to the top. If they’re Pakistani, they won’t”

He went on to say that if the Children were not allowed to leave the school premises then it would create a “sexual volcano”.

The Guardian says on the report:

‘Many black and Asian people still associate the Tories with tough immigration policies and racist views.’

Can’t think why!!

The Conservatives, as is the case with all right-wing parties and groups are inherently racist. It’s part of a nationalist agenda of ‘our country/people are better than yours’. You don’t look/speak/etc like us so piss off!

Say no to the right-wing! NO TO THE CONSERVATIVES AND NO TO UKIP!

Tory donors switching to Ukip

The Guardian has an interesting article today about Tory donors giving large and small sums of money to UKIP for them to fight the upcoming local elections that takes place on the 2nd of May.

Elections will be held in 35 English councils, including all 27 non-metropolitan county councils and eight unitary authorities, and to a single Welsh unitary authority. Direct mayoral elections will take place in Doncaster and North Tyneside. A total of 2,362 seats will be contested.

From the Guardian:

Stuart Wheeler, the gambling tycoon in charge of Ukip’s funds, said former Tory backers had promised big donations for next year’s European elections. Some had already made smaller donations that would contribute towards the £200,000 to be spent on advertising in local elections over the next few weeks, he said

Wheeler, who himself gave more than £5.5m to the Conservatives before being expelled from the party three years ago, said Ukip was taking the local elections seriously while aiming for a bigger push in the 2014 European elections.

“Some of [our new donors] were Conservatives but many are unwilling to go public. Any donation of more than £7,500 has to go on the electoral commission website. Quite a few give us exactly £7,500 because they don’t want [their identities] to be known,” he said.

UKIP, by big business, for big business.

Cambridgeshire County Council is divided into 60 ‘electoral divisions’ and not all parties listed above are standing in all of the electoral divisions.

Disappointing to see in the Romsey electoral division of Cambridgeshire that Cambridge Socialists are standing against the Greens but glad that TUSC is not standing against   Cambridge Socialists or the Greens in any of the divisions.

Good luck to the three of them, Greens, TUSC and Cambridge Socialists.

UKIP; ‘Get your money out of there while you’ve still got a chance’

The moron leader of British political party UKIP Nigel Farage has told Brits to ‘Get your money out of there while you’ve still got a chance’ in a reference to those living in the Mediterranean.

Blaming the EU and suggesting that people should withdraw their money, with the UK in dire economic state should we also withdraw our money?

Maybe we should put it under our bed?

It reminds me of the Chinese woman who withdrew her life savings before the year 2000 fearing it would all be lost because of Y2K only for a fire to burn her home and money all away!

Yes the EU bank levy is crazy but UKIP’s alternative is also crazy!

UK outlook ‘negative’

Credit rating agency Fitch has changed the UK’s outlook to negative, setting up a future downgrade.

The Conservatives came to power on the grounds of reducing public debt…

“Fitch said Britain’s lack of growth and growing debt mountain meant there was a “heightened probability of a downgrade in the near term”.”

Failed again tories!

Instead the Conservative/Liberal coalition has blindly followed ideologically driven policies that have no possibility of working out for the country.

Not that they care of course! Their policies are aimed, as they always have been, at making the rich wealthier and the poor poorer.

“Chris Leslie, Labour’s shadow Treasury minister, said: “This is yet another blow to a downgraded chancellor who made keeping the confidence of the credit rating agencies the number one test of his economic policy. What really matters are the economic realities which Fitch are responding to including, as their statement says, ‘the persistently weak performance of UK growth’.””

Indeed Chris but don’t forget it was your party that got us into this mess!

If you are going to go down the party politics route then the top four parties (Con, Lab, Lib, UKIP) can be instantly dismissed.
Though real change is not with party politics, it’s with the people, it’s with dissent.
